A pretty good book with a great plot line great literature and it kept my intrest The only problems i had with the book was I did sometimes miss understand which character was talking because im used to having an introduction to which characters perspective im reading from at the beggining of the chapter but it didn t take to long to catch up and i guess im also a little young to be reading it because there were some things i didin t understand I would definitly recomend this to a older audience It has a nice flow as I was reading it I don t think that there is anything about the book that i would change because the over all experence i got from the book was great It a book that i will have to get back to in a few years when im mature and likly to understand all of what im reading

I started reading this book because of its influence on TS Eliot the third section of Preludes is very much indebted to Philippe s world I found it surprising how explicit the writing was for its time and how objective the depiction of all these creatures of the demi monde He writes so sympathetically but not sentimentally of these people and their lives

A sad touching book that was written with much compassion The times have change some since it was written though Berthe was lead into prostitution largely because of poverty; currently drug addiction is often a major factor The risks and conseuences haven't changed
